I’m legit unreal at predictions. Started predicting winners 3 weeks ago, and I’ve called two of the last three. No big deal.
A bit of a rollercoaster round for Rickie Fowler today. Rickie started the day nicely, 1-under through three holes, before making a bogey at 4 and a double at 6. After another birdie and bogey, Fowler made the turn at 2 over par. Fowler made back to back birdies at 12 & 13, and added another at 16 before stumbling to the finish line with back to back bogeys to win at -12. Despite lackluster play from his irons and off the tee, Fowler’s putter came up huge, knocking in three putts from 30+ feet away. Gary Woodland was able to put some pressure on, getting as low as -10, but faltered late and finished at -8, in a second place tie. Joining Woodland was Morgan Hoffman, who was 2-under on the day. Jhonattan Vegas used an ace on the 15th hole to help secure a 4th place tie at -7, along with five other golfers.
Next Week, the Tour heads to Mexico City, for the World Golf Championship-Mexico Championship. 49 out of the top 50 ranked golfers in the world are playing, with the only exception being Jason Day, who dropped out due to a reported ear infection and flu symptoms. Rory McIlroy will be making his first appearance since an injury in January. Adam Scott won this event last year, with Dustin Johnson winning in ’15, and Patrick Reed in ’14. Tiger Woods won this event seven times. I want to pick Rory here, but I’m afraid he’ll be a bit rusty after his injury break, so I’m gonna go with Henrik Stenson this week. Dude is an awesome ball striker. (I’m also totally gonna say I called it if Rory wins)
