A week ago, Justin Thomas shot a 59 in the first round of the Sony Open. It was an awesome, record setting round. Then, in the same tournament, Kevin Kisner and Chez Reavie both flirted with 59. Fast forward to Saturday’s third round of the CareerBuilder Challenge. Canadian Adam Hadwin made 13 birdies, including stretches of 5 and 6 in a row, to climb to the top of the leaderboard. I’m starting to think that golf is just really easy for these guys. Of the now eight rounds of 59 on the tour, Hadwin’s is just the fourth to come on a par 72 course. Hadwin was playing at the La Quinta Country Club. Dominic Bozzelli remained in second place, just one shot back of Hadwin, after a 3-under 69 at the Nicklaus Tournament course. Hudson Swafford, playing at the Stadium Course, shot a 71 and fell to third place, two back of Hadwin. Phil Mickelson shot a 1 over 73 at the Stadium Course, and likely fell out of contention at his season debut. The entire field will be playing at the Stadium Course on Sunday.
